biography/

Otis Kwame Kye Quaicoe (b. 1988, Accra, Ghana; lives and works in Portland, OR) creates powerful figurative paintings in which color becomes a language of social, political, and personal transformation. His portraits merge empowerment and introspection, elegance and vulnerability, addressing identity, origin, and personal narrative in relation to race and gender.

Rooted in a deep sensitivity to his subjects’ inner strength and presence, Quaicoe seeks to convey their perspective and lived experience. His vibrant palette — marked by vivid oranges, Yves Klein blue, luminous yellows, and cherry reds — forms an emotionally charged pictorial space that unites psychological depth with individual style.

Quaicoe studied painting at the Ghanatta College of Art and Design in Accra. His second solo exhibition, ONE BUT TWO (Haadzii) (2021), further explored diasporic culture through contemporary Black portraiture, following Black Like Me (2020), his first solo exhibition in the United States.
